Cone Beam 3D Imaging in Naperville, IL

Traditional x-rays show a flat picture. Our cone beam scanner captures a detailed 3D view of your teeth, jawbone, nerves, and sinuses — so every treatment is planned with total precision.

What Is Cone Beam Imaging?

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an advanced 3D x-ray technology designed specifically for dentistry. During a quick scan, the imaging arm rotates once around your head, capturing hundreds of detailed images in about 20 seconds. Our software then compiles them into a precise three-dimensional model of your teeth, jawbone, nerves, airways, and sinuses.

Unlike traditional 2D x-rays — which can hide problems behind overlapping structures — 3D imaging lets Dr. Shah and Dr. Quadri examine your mouth from every angle before treatment ever begins. And because the beam is focused on a small area, it uses a fraction of the radiation of a hospital CT scan.

How 3D Imaging Improves Your Care

We use cone beam imaging to plan complex treatments with confidence and catch issues that 2D x-rays can miss.

Dental Implants

Evaluate bone density and volume, and pinpoint the exact location of nerves and sinuses — so your dental implant is placed in the ideal position the first time.

Root Canal Therapy

Reveal hidden, curved, or extra root canals that standard x-rays miss, giving your root canal the best chance of success.

Extractions & Wisdom Teeth

See the precise relationship between tooth roots and nearby nerves before wisdom tooth removal — for safer, more predictable surgery.

TMJ Evaluation

Examine the jaw joints in three dimensions to better diagnose the source of jaw pain and guide TMJ treatment.

Orthodontics & SureSmile

Map tooth roots and jaw structure to plan precise, efficient tooth movement with SureSmile clear aligners.

Early Detection

Spot infections, cysts, and bone loss in their earliest stages — when treatment is simplest and most conservative.

Fast, Comfortable & Low-Dose

A cone beam scan is one of the easiest appointments you'll ever have:

  • About 20 seconds — the scanner rotates once while you simply stand or sit still.
  • Open, comfortable design — no tunnel, no claustrophobia, nothing in your mouth.
  • Low radiation — a focused beam means a fraction of the dose of a medical CT.
  • Instant results — your 3D images are ready to review with your dentist right away.

Is cone beam imaging safe?

Yes. CBCT uses a focused x-ray beam limited to the area being examined, delivering far less radiation than a hospital CT scan. We only recommend a scan when the diagnostic benefit clearly outweighs the minimal exposure.

Does the scan hurt?

Not at all. There's nothing placed in your mouth — you simply hold still for about 20 seconds while the scanner rotates around your head.

Why isn't a regular x-ray enough?

Traditional x-rays compress 3D anatomy into a flat 2D image, so structures overlap and hide detail. Cone beam imaging shows the full picture — bone thickness, nerve pathways, and root anatomy — which is essential for precise implant, root canal, and surgical planning.

Will my insurance cover it?

When a 3D scan is part of a diagnosed treatment plan — such as implants or wisdom tooth removal — it is often covered. Our team will verify your benefits and explain any costs before your scan.
