What Are Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth are a set of third molars that erupt between the ages of 17 to 25. These teeth were once necessary for the diet of early humans. However, as we evolved after the advent of cooking, we no longer needed these extra teeth and our jaws shrank.

The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process
Consultation
Dr. Shah will take x-rays to get a good look at how your wisdom teeth are positioned in the jaw. This will help him determine if they need to be removed.
Anesthetic & Sedation Options
We always administer local anesthesia before making any incisions. This numbs your mouth so that the procedure is painless. We also offer dental sedation to relieve dental anxiety and discomfort.
Surgical Incision
An incision will be made into the gums to reveal the underlying tooth. This occurs when additional bone blocks access to the wisdom tooth.
Section Tooth
Your wisdom tooth will be cut into many small fragments for easier removal.
Tooth Removal
Using the same process as a basic extraction, we loosen the tooth with a dental elevator and use forceps to remove it. The socket is thoroughly cleaned and leftover tooth or bone fragments are removed.
Sutures
After repositioning the gums, we will suture them shut. Dissolvable sutures will dissolve within about a week. For non-dissolving sutures, you will return in about a week to have them removed.
